The Tourist Trail is a short story about a penguin researcher in Argentina, the stranger she meets one day, and a very special penguin. It was inspired by a trip to Patagonia and Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Society. It has since been expanded into a novel.
It won the Phoebe 2008 Fiction Prize and I have made it available for free as a PDF.
You can download it by clicking here.
The story was inspired by real-world research being conducted at Punta Tombo, Argentina. To learn more, visit http://faculty.washington.edu/boersma.

The Tourist Trail has evolved into a novel of the same name. If you’d like to be notified when the novel does publish, email me at jyunker (at) gmail (dot) com.
