Forrester Research has released new research that says that European online spending has grown more than 50% over the past year and that Europeans will spend more than US$70 billion during the upcoming Christmas season.

Here are the top five markets based on online spending:

• UK: $20 billion
• Germany: $12 billion
• France: $6.5 billion
• Italy: $2.1 billion
• Netherlands: $1.9 billion

Leisure travel, clothing, and consumer electronics will account for more than half of the money spent online.

These numbers are significant and further illustrate the importance of Web localization.
